WALLEYE

SMALLMOUTH

YELLOW PERCH

  • SPRING WALLEYE

April: Great time of the year for the jig fisherman. Most of the fishing takes place around the reef areas, along the western shoreline. One of the most productive lures for anglers is the purple hair jig, fished in 4 to 15 feet of water.

May: Post spawn walleye are in full force in the western basin. Catching 22" – 26" walleyes are very common. May is a good month for an angler to find bigger fish. Bottom bouncers with a 3-4 foot leader, containing 2 hooks, gold blade, and gold beads produce the best. Throwing a casting harness also can be equally productive.

  • SUMMER WALLEYE

June: A consistent month for catching walleye. With warming waters, the fish become more aggressive and easier to catch. Limits are common, size of fish average 18" to 25", and add in awesome weather. This time of year is where we drift fish, casting a worm harness tipped with a night crawler. You, the angler, feel the bite, set the hook, make the catch.

July: Absolutely the best month for catching a limit. The Ohio Division of Natural Resources has proven that the catch rate per angler is best during this month. July walleye fishing is spectacular on Lake Erie. Trips in the summer can range from the Western Basin to Canada. And the waters are picturesque. Great time for everyone.

August: The water temperature is the biggest factor on how active the walleye are in August. For the most part, good catches continue through the first 15 days. After that, water temperature is too warm, and walleyes become difficult to catch. Great good month for Walleye/Perch trip combinations!!

  • FALL WALLEYE

    September 1st – November 1st

This time of year can be feast or famine.  We are usually fishing east of Port Clinton 20-25 miles, north of Huron, Ohio. Definitely the best time of year for hog walleye.  You may have your best day or your slowest fishing day. If you hit it on the right day, it can be awesome.

SMALLMOUTH BASS

September and early October have always been the most productive months for thrilling Smallmouth Bass action. Lake Erie is considered one of the top 10 bass spots in the Northern US, and included in the overall top 100 bass destinations by Bassmaster Magazine. Tube jigs and live bait rigs with a soft craw are the most productive methods. 3-4 pound bass are common and catching 50-60 bass in a day is possible.

Although not the table fare that is offered by the Walleye and Yellow Perch, the Smallmouth Bass is considered pound for pound one the best fighting fish in the water. Come hook into a great fight and watch the high leaping jumps out of the water as the battle wages. Exciting fishing for the angler enthusiast.

Prime time Perch fishing is August through October.

Combo fishing for perch and walleye during late summer (August) and early fall is always a great option on Lake Erie. Nothing like catching a limit of Yellow Perch in the morning, then turning your attention to their larger cousin the Walleye.

YELLOW PERCH

On Lake Erie, August, September and October are consistently great months to fish for yellow perch. It’s not uncommon for anglers to catch a limit in 3 ½ to 4 hours.
